The path of scenarios in our Frosthaven sub-campaign – Unfettered (Machines) – worked out in that way so we had a chance again to fight another BOSS! It was kind of surprising development that we get to him / that / it so quickly; but well, nobody will complain! Especially as such battles are usually epic, difficult and provide disproportionately high gains. But would it complete that campaign path – we really doubted it.

As always we start with the composition of our proficient monster-killer team. Frozen Fist and Snowdancer are already part of it for several scenarios but Infuser is kind of the new acquisition in our merry company. And he does really well – we found some incredible synergies in this adventure with Frozen Fist!
So, here is our current composition:
- Frozen Fist – level 2 (me) – a little of tank (most HP in our group), a little of damage dealer (tons of interesting attacks), and a very mobile creature.
- Infuser – level 3 (Kuba J) – seems like damage dealer type but with some very crazy stuff and surprising synergies we just discovered.
- Snowdancer – level 3 (Kuba G) – first and foremost crowd control, with all its pushes and pulls; can create hazardous terrain (with each level – more of it!).
This is not the most experienced team – with average level between 2 and 3. Still, as in all games in the series, the difficulty level of scenarios auto-adjusts to how proficient group of adventurers you have. Let us see how the scenario went!
Scenario Specifics
Below we analyze scenario, its set-up, win conditions and complexity levels:
That one is definitely not a straightforward adventure – yes, win condition is so simple I even did not put the usual picture – simply, kill Lord of Chaos. But to get to it takes time. First of all, we need to go through the beam of chaotic energy, which blocks path to monster.
Then, the creature is summoning numerous additional monsters or attacks at long range, immobilizing us. So to get within the hit distance is kind of problematic – especially as it can also push us into this energy field! Well, we would need to split in order to cover all possible threat sources.

Session Report
Summary
Small, crazy scenario with tons of special rules – still, proved not to be so difficult. Well, probably we would not be so happy and self-confident if not for two critical hits which combined with Brittle ability on boss resulted in true carnage. That also helped us to discover some interesting combos and interdependencies between characters.
That path of Machines we closed, getting some interesting piece of equipment (Shard form Lurkers Crown); now it is time to explore further campaign path. Already next week we shall face the elevator with multiple turrets. Hm, sounds interesting 🙂
Fairly easy scenario, the boss is a damage sponge, and most of its actions were of little danger if team is positioned well. Only our Snowdancer had problems with boss’ ranged attacks that immobilized the character and put into risk of being hit by demonic summons. Snowdancer was supposed to keep summons away from us, due to constant immobilizes by the boss it didn’t go exactly as planned(creating deadly wall of hazardous terrain), but well enough to do the task. Both damage dealers have been focused on hitting the boss hard. My infuser used his item/blade to put poison on a boss, then 4 times repaeated 2 attacks(as an upper and a bottom action) in one round, twice used the brittle(instead the basic 2-3 attack with posion)when Frozen Fist was about to use his strongest attacks, twice extreemly lucky, with critical successes. Sure, we also got hit by the boss almost each round, but we were doing damage so quick that we could burn single cards to negate incoming damage(such situation occured only once in the entire scenario). The scenario can easily go wrong, when You don’t avoid the beam or boss’ ranged attacks, collect sparks and let summoned creatures attack the party, but with proper setup and division of tasks we didn’t let anything bad happen to us. We would beat the boss even at hard/very hard level, that would only cost us more time and maybe few more lost cards. Fun to watch when a new combo works, sadly it won’t repeat too often, since my infuser will rarely use that card giving brittle to an enemy. I’ve taken it for this specific scenario, DPS mode, for other games i may require something with elements, to powerup my abilities and more flexibility.
