When you look at our Frosthaven campaign and numerous scenarios we played, almost half of them was in four-player set-up. Unfortunately, despite our deepest wishes and attempts, the fourth player (be it Konrad, one Tomek or the other Tomek) has not stayed with us for too long.

Still, there was some unfinished business to complete which we could not leave just like that. Namely, the retirement of Drifter. His personal goal was to collect some resources and then play two-scenario mini-campaign. We managed to accomplish the initial adventure – #69 Sacred Soil – and then our four-player team permanently collapsed to three.

Our Frosthaven Campaign in scenario order:
Some interesting materials about Frosthaven World:
Frosthaven – first look – starting characters (1/2)
Frosthaven – first look – starting characters (2/2)
Frosthaven – monsters' analysis & strategies – Lurkers
Frosthaven – monsters' analysis & strategies – Unfettered

But we devised a cunning plan. One of us will play two-handed, leading two characters in this last mission. That will allow us to complete retirement and reap the fruits of this! (probably unlocking some building and getting prosperity). So this time our team composition looked a bit differently:

  • Damage Dealer – my Deathwalker at level 6
  • Support Trapper (Kuba J) level 5
  • Tank Coral (Kuba G) level 4 (just recently promoted)
  • and… another TankDrifter level 5 – played two hands by Kuba G!

Again, we decided to stay on Normal Difficulty – definitely, Gloomhaven was much more simpler and straightforward than Frosthaven and playing four characters with three players was enough complication.

Session report

Here is our scenario:

Finally! After so many side quests played recently with super complicated, wild or bizarre win conditions here we have a straightforward “kill-them-all” type of game. There will be some twist – we got information we need to protect some “Sacred Tree” from being destroyed by bunch of fanatics but well, that means we shall dispatch them even faster! Let us see.

PS. As always, feel free to click on below images for full details.

Session report

Scenario #70 Looks moderately long, with 3-4 rooms (to be seen) but decent amount of running (or teleporting 🙂 ).
Some crazy fast hounds were awaiting us – with retaliate and some special bonuses those small monsters can be really dangerous
On top of this we started to play with City Challenges – which will give us perks to City Attack Deck; this time we were forbidden from using the small items – pretty nasty challenge.
Hounds might be fast and nasty, guards might have armor but there WERE FOUR OF US again! And we felt the difference – of course, scenarios are scaled to number of players but I have a feeling with four adventures it is a bit easier.
Second room and the True Oak finally. With 48 Hit Points we should be able to save it – unless all those monsters jump on it.
We really had to use all we got in our arsenal – the scenario stipulates that True Oak has initiative of 01 which means is almost always chosen by monsters as target!
The tree lost like 2/3 of its life before we killed all the monsters. We again started to doubt whether we will win.
LOL, that we did not expect. WHITE FLAME? (Maybe dancing on the graves of his enemies?) The guys in the center with red stand was actually boss of all those fanatics who tried to burn the tree. As such, he of course had some special abilities like summoning hounds!
Things got pretty complicated with so many monsters and characters. Turns were longer and longer.
But then the action started! I simply love well-positioned Lingering Rot by Deathwalker; with proper preparation (Strengthen giving Advantage) and boost (like Power Potion – not to use unfortunately in this scenario) plus perfect deck (no minuses except for cancel) that landed on 5 enemies devastating them. At this moment in our campaign that action has easily potential of dealing 25 damage…
Then, it was just fiishing off whatever was left plus looting. Of course, my brave Deathwalker got exhausted – burning cards in second room took its toll.
And then the long awaited retirement of Drifter happened. We opened envelope 24 which gave us… Garden! Well, we will have now possibility to plant and cultivate herbs 🙂

Summary

Playing that scenario was a good decision; we gained new building, two prosperity and feeling that Drifter chapter is finally over. That was a good buddy – jovial Inox who could take a lot of beating but also inflict significant damage. Versatile character – to be missed for sure!

See you in another session report!
