We are getting excited – our Frosthaven campaign – at least in area of Algoxes – is getting closer to the finish. We recently completed two crazy scenarios where we were supposed to collect ancient snow and ancient ice (respectively, #45 Living Glacier & #46 Dead Pass). We are on almost last adventure to finally solve the mystery of why Algoxes are so brutal and violent, why they fight each other and Frosthaven inhabitants. Something here is very suspicious.

But first of all, we need to cleanse ancient altar. And that is the main goal of Frosthaven – Scenario #52 Fleeting Permanence (love that title!)

Our Frosthaven Campaign in scenario order:
Some interesting materials about Frosthaven World:
Frosthaven – first look – starting characters (1/2)
Frosthaven – first look – starting characters (2/2)
Frosthaven – monsters' analysis & strategies – Lurkers
Frosthaven – monsters' analysis & strategies – Unfettered

All our characters were recently promoted and one of them – my Deathwalker – reached level nine! Hurray, now he is a true killing machine, dealing damage in droves! Trapper proves to be a great crowd-control character, channeling enemies via proper placement of traps. And Coral – we would not survive too much without versatile tank. So here they are, our heroes:

  • Deathwalker – level 9 (me)
  • Trapper – level 7 (Kuba J)
  • Coral – level 7 (Kuba G)

We really had fun playing with such a group!

Scenario Specifics

Let us now analyze scenario, its set-up, win conditions and complexity levels.

Two dots means some complexity, but not too much. Still, when you read the victory conditions – well, they are strange. We need to kill six Snow Imps and six Frost Daemons. But that is not enough – we need to drag their bodies – using Loot Ability – to particular places on map. When you add to this the fact the map is pretty large, with 5 rooms altogether, that might be problematic and very time-consuming. Let us see how most effectively tackle this!

PS. As always, feel free to click on below images for full details.

Session Report

Scenario #52 set-up big room in the center; I marked spaces where we need to place Ice Daemons (blue) and Frost Imps (red). There are also four adjacent rooms – one might expect more creatures hidden there.
Close-up on our merry company, facing the horde of enemies.
So we start – with a bang. We know our characters pretty well – and understand what colleagues can do. So it is not uncommon to prepare very powerful combos – like top of my Level 9 card – with which we dispatched three enemies in one go!
First room cleaned, time to enter another two (simultaneously). As expected, there were more monsters there which we had to kill and drag! But also two treasures. Let us check them… oh, shit! Those were hidden traps!
Coral had a pleasure to check room 3 and…
…room 4. Lucky guy – both his Treasures were actual loot!
Killing the enemies was not a problem; moving them via loot definitely more time consuming and problematic. But in the end we finished with such a beautiful mosaic in first are. Scenario won!
The Outpost phase was pretty uneventful – nothing serious happened. But I would like to show you guys how we nicely we developed the outpost already. We have 11 buildings, all of them on maximum level barring the prosperity limitation. The defense of Frosthaven is pretty formidable, with all the possible walls and six hired Guards. So second Winter – to which we are slowly getting – should not be a problem!

Summary

I am getting more and more fun with playing Frosthaven lately. I got used to some crazy scenario special rules and victory conditions. Our group is versatile enough to tackle even the most difficult adventures. Last but not least, my Deathwalker with level 9 is currently so powerful that it is pleasure to observe monsters being splashed on the wall / spiked on pikes / crushed to pieces. Will be pity to part with him – but I have a feeling this is soon to come…

What now? Well, on to the LAST Algox scenario! Stay tuned!
