Recently we completed a lot of side quests, gaining resources, experiences, new levels, rewards, and skills for our group. Also wrapping up some unfinished business. We are preparing for a large coma back to the main campaign thread – especially very difficult boss scenario which we failed already once: #21 Realm of Endless Frost. That one is connected with the Lurkers sub-campaign, and we are very curious how it will end up.

So, did we move against the boss yet? Nope, not yet. We estimated that with one more side quest we all should be able to get a promotion and – importantly – do not change the average scenario level (it scales with experience of the group). Thus, we decided for another crazy experience (literally!) for loot and glory!

Our Frosthaven Campaign in scenario order:
Some interesting materials about Frosthaven World:
Frosthaven – first look – starting characters (1/2)
Frosthaven – first look – starting characters (2/2)
Frosthaven – monsters' analysis & strategies – Lurkers
Frosthaven – monsters' analysis & strategies – Unfettered

The composition of our group has not changed for last 7-8 scenarios – and one can see how efficiently we started to cooperate; we know what that means when somebody says I will be fast, or I will be slow. We cooperate regarding the elements, special attacks, etc. Mind you, without too much table talk. All of this thanks to those three great characters:

  • Damage Dealer – my Deathwalker at level 6
  • Support Trapper (Kuba J) level 4
  • Tank Coral (Kuba G) level 4

As we are still growing in our roles, we again decided on Normal Difficulty – we really needed a victory here and three promotions. Let us see how it went!

Session report

Here is our scenario:

Now you see what I meant by crazy, bizarre adventure. Not only you can complete this in two ways – fighting Hungry Maw or feeding it 🙂 But also the scenario description and the problem (hungry zombie?) was a very interesting background to the story.

The poor monster was unlucky – we decided for quick, brutal, and hopefully fast way to complete the scenario – attacking Hungry Maw. We thought – one room, quick fight, and we move on. Of course, as always in Frosthaven, we were quickly corrected.

PS. As always, feel free to click on below images for full details.

Session report

Scenario #122 do not be misled by the number of rooms; as per description you will visit only some of them; if you turn right – you will fight Hungry Maw; if you turn left – a very strange and demanding puzzle will await you. We went for the monster :).
But before opening the room, we boosted ourselves like three turns to have proper tides (Coral), traps (Trapper) and shadows (Deathwalker).
And then we dared to move forward. Hm, hungry Maw was not looking so formidable – ok, decent Boss Special attack, 44 HPs, but slow and unimpressive.
Some retaliate, some shield, but overall, nothing special.
I could not lose an opportunity to again use Lingering Rod with proper boost (Power Potion for attack strength + Spyglass for advantage). That feels so good!
Are we done yet? No? But are we close? Yes! … Wait what – when monster reaches 50% of its Hit Points…
…it heals itself, opens a room behind us (where I and poor Trapper were hiding) and gets immunity until we get rid of all Imps? Yes, the perspective of defeat was quickly visible. Especially those Polar Bears seemed like a quick, nasty enemy.
With many burned cards, some impressive combos as well as good teamwork we prevailed but believe me, there were moments of doubt.
What next? Outpost, and a pretty eventful one. First of all, we survived Winter! Secondly, another very interesting scenario of Pinter Droman opened (above). We helped him twice (#114 Work Freeze & #115 Pylon Problems) and would be glad to give him a hand again.
Another important development was opening of a key decision we will have to make in the Algox sub-campaign; part of the tribe wants a war; part will try to follow the peaceful solution with another Algox community. A complete section of scenarios will unlock – or lock permanently – based on what we shall decide.
The Winter Outpost phase (last before Spring) had to finish with a blast… We encountered some unfriendly Robots and decided not to submit to their blackmail. So, they destroyed one of our buildings attacking with strength of… 10000!

Summary

Fun scenario to play, interesting twist in the middle, lot of options to complete and successfully ending. But what is most important ALL THREE characters got promotion! We shall be much better prepared for the #21 Realm of Endless Frost and its nasty Boss!

See you in another session report!
