For all impatient to immediately jump to the campaign page, follow below link:
The Other Side of the Hill is a boardgame that simulates the effects that the struggle for power within the German High Command had on the development of the Second World War. That very intriguing title is currently running its campaign and with that article we will try to briefly present its main concepts.
Up to four players represent military leaders cooperating and competing as they manage Germany’s wartime strategy. To win, they must vie for Prestige by advancing the careers of their chosen Army and Army Group commanders, grabbing their share of victories while the early-war pickings are easy, then avoiding responsibility for battlefield disasters as the Soviets and the Western Allies solidify and push back.
Players will pursue hidden objectives to dominate the German Officer Corps on behalf of Interest Groups such as the technically-minded Professionals, a traditionalist Old Guard, or anti-Nazi Dissidents – all while Allied aircraft bombard Germany’s war industry and Allied armies press in on every front. As in history, players must reconcile contradictory roles. The German General Staff’s job is to hold the Allies off, but each clique’s priorities can subvert any collective strategy. And beware: a player may in secret be sabotaging the war effort!
What is more, game comes in various modes which will allow for a wide array of gameplay. let us see:
- Competitive > One player will win, even if Germany collapses.
- Cooperative > If Germany collapses, all players lose.
- Semi-cooperative > There will be one winner, but Germany must survive.
- Solitaire > You are alone against all odds.
Of course, there will be also many interesting scenarios with various length. For sure we should see:
- The Triumph of Blitzkrieg (1939-1941)
- Total War (1942-1945)
- World War (1941-1945)
- Armageddon (1939-1945)
Looks like a very interesting project, touching important part of history from completely different point of view. Do not hesitate and check – and should you find it interesting, support that excellent project.
I really wasn’t planning on getting any more wargames but this one looks too ingenious to ignore. Cost may be a stumbling block but as Miracle at Dunkerque is seemingly on a forever “never” list I might take the plunge when this one comes out instead

That one also intrigued me – this is definitely less known subject and tackled in pretty interesting way.

This one did look like an exciting idea when I saw it pop up. I’d never get it played, but I definitely look forward to hearing more about it
