Sea & Steel: Columbus’ Voyages is a compact strategic game for one or two players that explores the turbulent years following Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Caribbean. Covering the period from 1492 to 1505, the game places one side in command of the expanding Spanish forces, while the other leads the indigenous Taíno and Carib peoples resisting the newcomers. It is an unusual and refreshing theme, rarely seen on our tables, which immediately makes the title stand out.
Gameplay focuses on area control, event cards, and careful resource management across fifteen Caribbean regions. The Spanish side must balance exploration, colonization, and maintaining supply lines, while the native factions rely on mobility, resistance, and internal coordination to counter the invaders. This asymmetry promises interesting decisions and strong replayability, especially as both sides require a very different mindset to play effectively.
What I particularly like is that the game also includes a solitaire mode, allowing a solo player to command the Spanish side against an automated indigenous opponent. With a playing time of around 60–90 minutes, it appears to offer a focused and accessible experience without sacrificing strategic depth. If the mechanics deliver on the promise of the setting, this could be a very intriguing title for players looking for historical games beyond the usual military conflicts.

Very timely! This just arrived at my door from Noble Knight. I never thought I would have a Columbus game, but I guess never say never.
Glad to hear you just got it! Indeed, I also never though about a wargame featuring famous Columbus – and here it is!
