Essen Spiel is a great place to discover new titles. Even wargames! Verdun from Finnish publisher Dragon Dawn Productions was one of them for me. I had a chance to play it – it uses some cool trick-tracking mechanics to resolve battles and how you score the points. Beautiful, thematic components. Always hard decisions to make – thus it was a no-brainer for me to get this game!

It allows both 1v1 and 2v2 play, revisiting the German and French armies fighting in the World War I battlefields of Verdun. We have definite set of the cards from the beginning, and as our hand dwindles, we will also have to play cards that help the other side, timing it strategically to minimize our own casualties.

We have introductory game, regular game and a small expansion. That allows for a pretty decent replayability and fun. Below I am presenting not only components, but the actual play too. Hope you will enjoy it!
