Fields of Fire is in the top three of my favorite solitaire tabletop wargames ever played. In my humble opinion, it does a fantastic job of simulating the small teams engagements, accounting for all important elements like chain of command, communication, initiative, limited information, equipment, morale, experience or – very importantly – and chaos of battle.

Other materials for Fields for Fire:
Platoon Basics Academy
Company Basics Academy
Standalone Mission Playthrough

With Deluxe Edition we are getting a wonderful product, containing great components but what is even more important – streamlined introductory path. By many treated as complex and difficult, the game really shines once you learn its mechanics. And what is the better way than to do it step by step, in small, digestible chunks?

That is why I created Fields of Fire Academy. First, it covered only Basics and followed the Infantry Company Manual – part of the Deluxe Edition. Secondly, in order to picture that theoretical knowledge, I created whole playthrough of the Standalone Mission.

The time has come to enter the uncharted waters of advanced Fields of Fire play. There will be tanks, helicopters and jungles of Vietnam. So let us see what I have prepared!

  • Anti Tank Combat: We will start the advanced lessons from the exciting Anti-Tank combat. Our enemy will be static, but please try to face powerful 88mmm guns. We shall explain the whole concept, as this phase is played a bit differently than infantry combat.

  • Tank vs Tank Combat: The objective of Material 2 is to add additional layer to the armored combat – that is tank vs tank! That will show how exciting such engagements can be – but also how risky it is to approach enemy with your not-always-well-protected tanks. To make things more interesting, the usual static German defenses will also be present!

  • Air Assault: In the Material 3 we completely change the scenery as well as the means of transport. For the first time we play in Vietnam Jungle and explain how to transport your troops with the use of helicopters! If you thought that Normandy missions were difficult and dangerous, you will open your eyes to a completely new type of challenges!

Enjoy this great game! The next step will be to play the initial mission in full, using all the rules!
