Angola recreates a brief portion of the violent, decades-long Angolan civil war that began in the 1970s with the fall of a colonial power and dragged its bloody way into the 21st century thanks in part to cold war politics. It is a multi-player game in which players control the various Soviet- and US-backed factions that vied for control of Angola from 1975 to 1976. It features a number of innovative game systems – especially for its time of publication, 1988 – that keep players guessing, create plenty of tension, and reward the right balance of boldness and caution.

I always wanted to try this title and when I finally had occasion, I fell in love with this. It is asymmetric, replayable, tense and violent. Has great victory point system, with balancing mechanics. Rewards proper planning and resources management. Having such great experiences, I decided to create brief material about this game.

By no means this is a full, detailed, rule by rule, paragraph by paragraph explanation of the game. Still, you will learn here all the main mechanics, understand the objectives, flow and concepts of the game. I will also not refrain to underline some of the great mechanics developed here which I appreciate very much (already almost 30 years ago!). Hopefully, you will get hooked by the game the way I did!

Enjoy!
